University of Northern Iowa: Traveling - UNI Capstone in London and Paris

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot of new qualities that I didn't know I had. I am really good at making sucky situations better, as well as finding my way around citys. I was never good at using maps but now I can successfully use a map!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The places we visited were really interesting and exciting, and it was not a problem for us to get our tickets at most of these places. Although we did have a few setbacks here and there, but it was hard to get things done quickly with 20 students. Overall my expectations were met, and I had a great time on the trip!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It was easier to meet new people while staying in London. The hostel was not as nice as the Paris hostel, but it definitely offered a more family feel, and made it easier to talk to the other people living there. The hostel in Paris was really nice, but at times I felt like I was living in a hotel. It was very large. The locations for both places were awesome! There was a lot to do if you went out and found it.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

I practiced my french on the locals at restaurants and markets. Generally people in France knew at least a little english. In London everyone we talked to at restaurants, hostels, markets, stores and etc spoke english.
