Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I found it difficult to cope with the workload; I estimate that it was about 1/3 as much per week to what I was used to- and the semesters' were longer also.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

My expectations were met regarding these program; I would however, have liked more advice on transport issues as it was difficult to get around.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I felt very safe in the apartment and my neighbours and apartment mates were nice. The proximity to class was good- only 15 minute walk. However, access to nightlife was over 50 minutes away walking and 25 minutes walk to any shops; these distances are not bad at all but this changes slightly when it is either late at night or you are carrying alot. They provided sheets on the first day (that we bought). However, there was no cooking supplies- probably because international students usually do not go for the self- catered option like I did.

* Food:

Campus food was good but I prefer to cook for myself and from other students responses, got more satisfaction from this then I would have from campus food. Cooking for yourself makes sense if you have any dietary requirements if, for instance, you are a vegetarian like me.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It was very useful to be taken round the town shopping during induction week.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I believe Cedar Falls is, over all, very safe and I didn't feel too unsafe. However, someone was attacked only 200 metres from my apartment block and my bag was stolen on the bus (with over $200 worth of property), so it is definitely worth exercising caution. But this shouldn't stop people coming to Cedar Falls because these were very rare instances.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
