By (International Business and Economics, Oklahoma State University - Stillwater) for

University of Hertfordshire: Hatfield - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Definately, was ready to go back the week I returned to the states.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thought the English way of teaching / univeristy was extremely easy compared to the U.S. System.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

non-existant. They were pretty laxadazical.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

club was really close, class was a 10 minute shuttle ride. i loved my location / housing

* Food:

Cafeteria wasnt that bad, only reason i didnt give it a 5 star is because i didnt eat their very often. however, the bar had pretty good bar food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

experienced alot of different things we dont have in the states.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Was not allowed to use their univeristy health services because i was in country under 6 months. very dissapointed in that. Safety was never an issue, university security was very prevalent, and we had card swipes to get into the flat and individual keys to get into your room.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Direct Enrollment

Other Program Information

* Where did you live?

Select all that apply

  • Dorm
* Who did you live with?

Select all that apply

  • Local Students

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? go out and experience as much as you can. goto the local pubs and not just the university bar. Rail passes are great for if you goto the mainland, because they do not work in the Britain or Scotland. Get out of your comfort zone and it will be worthwhile.
