The education is okay, but the country is amazing Past Review

University of Edinburgh: Edinburgh - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worthwhile to spend a semester in Scotland, though spending Wellesley tuition for Edinburgh education and lack of personal attention was pretty disappointing.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I rarely interacted with the OIS after I arrived in Edinburgh

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The flat (Sciennes) was absolutely fine, but the plumbing was erratic which made it less than wonderful.

* Food:

Self-catered, I was able to find and prepare satisfactory food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? ~$200
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Figure out something inexpensive that you can eat for dinner every day, then stock up on it so you don't find yourself going out to eat because you don't have anything in your flat.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

  • Participating in student life
* What could be improved?
  • Edinburgh's international student support was great at the top levels, could be better for individual classes
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Not being on a campus makes it much harder to socialize with friends, but since there's much more to do it's worth it.
