What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was the best experience I could have wished for. I would never give up any of it. I do wish that I had met more actually scottish people though I met amazing American students while abroad who I am planning on seeing back in the States.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was sparatic at best, but it was fun. It allowed for more traveling. The grading system just needs to be gotten used to. There is much less one-on-one time with anyone, usually just lectures.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

It was the perfect sized city where there was always something new, but it wasn't hard to get a handle on the town. The ability to get around on the train was amazing.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was in a 6 person single-sex flat in Robertson's Close. This is at the corner of the Royal Mile and South Bridge and the Cowgate.

Very safe, very close to EVERYTHING. It came with cooking things, especially because some of the girls bought some the previous semester.

* Food:

I had to feed myself which was new, but allowed for some experimentation.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I went traveling around with my friends a LOT and it was very easy and simple to plan.

* Safety:

I was confused about the whole health system when being an exchange student. LUckly I didn't get sick while abroad so I didn't have to deal with it. Other people figured it out when it was necessary though.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I usually spent around 20 pounds each week on groceries, but the amount that you will eat out will increase that drastically - possibly to 40 pounds.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Learn to eat in early on. Dont' go out constantly. It will really help cut down costs.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Exchange
