By (HISTORY., Middlebury College) - abroad from 01/03/2013 to 05/18/2013 with

University of East Anglia: Norwich - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I was essentially on my own for long periods of time (ex: Easter Break) so I pretty much learned How To Be An Adult. On a lighter note, I got much better at public transportation.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I rarely did anything through the Study Abroad department-I saw no need to.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved that it was in the city, but the building itself looked like a prison.

* Food:

Not applicable, I cooked everything on my own. My university had no meal plan.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no health related issues-when I had the sniffles, I bought over the counter medication (lemsip, painkillers, etc.)

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $0. Any other expenses were out of my own pocket (ex: traveling)

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

War and Peace Since 1945

Course Department: History
Instructor:
Instruction Language: English
Comments: I was assessed much like at Midd-two major essays, one essay final. The class didn't really 'make use of the location'-though I did use UEA's library a lot. It was mostly theory, which I'm not really comfortable in.
Credit Transfer Issues: I do not know/hasn't transferred yet.
Course Name/Rating:

The English Civil War

Course Department: History
Instructor: Joel Halcomb
Instruction Language: English
Comments: The course was marred with confusion early on, as one of our two instructors left midway through the year. But Joel managed to pick up the slack perfectly-this was one of my favorite classes of my whole academic life and definitely one of my favorites at UEA.
Credit Transfer Issues: I do not know/hasn't transferred yet.
Course Name/Rating:

Napoleon to Stalin: The Struggle for the Mastery of Europe

Course Department: History
Instructor:
Instruction Language: English
Comments: It was a general overview of European history-one that didn't really dip that much into the nitty gritty in lectures.
Credit Transfer Issues: I do not know/hasn't transferred yet.
