University of Colorado Boulder: International Operations in Hong Kong, Hosted by the Asia Institute

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I enjoyed experiencing a culture so different to my own and found the experience to be both insightful and eyeopening.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Not too rigorous. The program allowed you to learn as much or little as you pleased.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

On site was great especially the coordinators who were both informative and fun. However, there were some logistical inefficiencies in terms of guides being unaware of location.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

No problems, the living arrangements were rather posh for college students.

* Food:

Wish more meals were included with more variety.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Its difficult to integrate in just three weeks, especially in a culture with such contrast to my own.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Watches, suits, handbags.....something else

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The city was much more expensive than expected and the institute's estimates on budgeting were lowballed at the least.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $300
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Expect to spend double what you think, the city is very expensive.
