What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned about not only the Spanish culture, but about cultures, languages, and people all around the world. The University of Burgos gives great support to its international students, and you have the opportunity to make so many friends that you will learn so much from.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Don't secure an apartment before leaving the U.S. Make arrangements to live in a university residence and then meet people there to live in an apartment with, or stay in the dorm. I stayed in the dorm the whole semester, and it would have been a better experience to get an apartment, but the best thing to do is wait until you get there to look for apartments and find the one for you.

* Food:

The food in the university residence is terrible, but in town it is good!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

One of the best things about the Burgos exchange program is the opportunity to expand your Spanish and really become fluent. Many of the other students and the people of the town don't speak English, so to communicate, you have to challenge yourself and speak Spanish.

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Intermediate
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Advanced
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? SPAN 353
How many hours per day did you use the language?
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Speaking with native speakers and watching/listening to Spanish music and programs.
