University of Bristol: Bristol - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about English culture, which I think was worthwhile. I also started a new sport, so that was nice.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

It was a bit confusing at the time with the NHS vs. private US insurance, but I think that I figured it out.

* Safety:

I had no problems

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I had a really good time. I liked that Bristol was a large enough city and university that I had opportunities, but I was comfortable enough to not be overwhelmed.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I was in a catered hall, so including the meal plan I spent about $150 each week

* What could be improved?
  • Study abroad student support (there was very little communication with the Study Abroad Office)
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I'd known that the University of Bristol is actually a very well-regarded school in England. Also England is expensive. And that when they tell you the weather in England is terrible, they aren't joking.
