By (English Literature (British and Commonwealth)., DePauw University) for

University of Aberdeen: Aberdeen - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
As stated before, I would not trade my academic abroad experience for another. However, I would have liked to travel other places throughout Europe to further broaden my horizons and global outlook.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Strength: very informative with general information regarding an off-campus experience Weakness: more time spent devoted to one's specific program, country, etc. during orientation sessions

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Most of my exposure to city attractions and social events occurred through my interest - my university advertised events going on each week, but did not arrange special events for students to attend.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt safe walking anywhere during daylight, however not at night. I always took public transportation at night because there were reported incidents of assault near my housing unit.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? (Approximates) Bus Transportation: $8-10/week Food/Meals: $75-100/week Trips (did not travel every weekend, also destination-dependent): $50-250/trip
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I had to be very frugal with my money, as the dollar was very weak with the pound (British currency).

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None

Direct Enrollment/Exchange
