University College London (UCL): London - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot because I put in the work. Nothing in London was easy and felt no support from UCL or my home college.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

There was no support for study abroad students after an initial 20 minute meeting on how to register for classes. I was given little to no information by my home institution before leaving, and everything I knew about the procedures of the college I had to learn from other students.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

In order to live at in the UCL dorms I had to sign a contract that lasted through the entire month of June. My program officially ended on June 9th and in actuality I finished all my exams on May 12th. Because I didn't have any abroad experience I did not feel comfortable finding my own apartment in London, so I was forced to pay a large amount of money in rent for the weeks I was no longer living there.

* Food:

N/A I was not on a meal plan and cooked all my own food

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
