Unforgettable Past Review

Universiteit Antwerpen / University of Antwerp: Exchange Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot of respect for those living in foreign countries and speaking their second or even third language daily. I have officially caught the travel bug. There are so many amazing things to see, and learn, followed by many interesting people to meet, and lots of different cultures to experience. I've become more social, and willing to meet/hangout with those I maybe wouldn't have back home. The list can go on and on...and it was 100% worthwhile.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Classes weren't mandatory, but the finals were basically our only grade for the class. Making it much more information to study than I am used to compared to OSU.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Location- amazing Flat mates- amazing (also international students) Sharing a kitchen, toilets, showers with 20 other people not so amazing Main dislikes- no A/C, and only 2 out of 4 stove burners worked.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had to go to a doctor and get a prescription filled afterwards. Yes, I had the insurance that OSU mandates, but the amount of paperwork that was needed to fill out to only get 50 euros back, was not worth my time. Especially since I was feeling so sick, and it needed to be done in timely manner. I opted just to pay for the health visit myself.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Although the school was more rigorous and challenging than I thought it would be. I ended up falling in love with Antwerp (which I didn't anticipate at all), and I can't imagine my experience without all of the amazing people I have met here. I wouldn't have met them if I would've chosen another program.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Antwerp is a pretty expensive city to live.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Erasmus Network (great way to make friends)
  • The professor's English was very understandable
* What could be improved?
  • Don't let undergrad students take the master's level courses
  • Study groups for international students in the same classes
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Get ready to really study for the last month...harder than I've ever had to study before.
