What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It exposed me to poverty I have never seen before. It convicted me to radically change how I live...more simply!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was very doable and provided time for other cultural experiences. Some classes were taught by Ugandan professors that had different teaching styles, but other classes were taught by expats that were very similar to American courses. The African professors are very lecture driven where as the American professors are more interested in class discussions.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I felt like the administrators became family. They were very welcoming to us and strove to help us assimilate.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I had a great experience with my host family. They were so welcoming and generous. I lived within walking access to the university and had basic accommodations. It was definitely a lesson on "living simply" as it is a third world country (no running water, electricity sketchy, and all fire top cooking).

* Food:

If you like rice and beans, this is your place.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There were five weekend trips scheduled and planned. The administrators made it easy for us to see all areas of the country!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Never did I feel unsafe. I did get minor food poisoning but it was inevitable.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The host family
* What could be improved?
  • A better packing list should be provided!
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Go for a unique or rare experience. You will most likely not have the opportunity to live in a mud hut ever again. It may be more challenging than Spain, but it will forever change your life!
