Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Full-Year 2008

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The courses I took were very demanding and very fast-paced. I think students who are inclined to read and study on their own time (both during term and vacation period) will benefit the most.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I had no problems at all dealing with college and university administration at Oxford. The college officers can be contacted easily via email, and they often respond within a day or two.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a single-occupant room on college campus. The room came equipped with a bed, desk, closet, sink, bookcase, and two chests for storing clothing and other items. The building I lived in had six male residents. We shared a large bathroom with multiple shower stalls and toilets. In the basement was a small kitchen and laundry room.

Housing was arranged by the Tufts-in-Oxford program. Living on campus is very safe. Pembroke College happens to be about a block from the city center and across the street from Christ Church College, so it is probably one of the best locations in the city.

* Food:

Students can eat lunch and dinner in the college dining hall. There are also plenty of restaurants and a few grocery stores nearby. The food isn't spectacular or exotic, but it's not bad either.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I did not experience any health issues, so I cannot comment on how they were addressed. Oxford is overall a rather safe city, and living on campus is especially safe. For better or worse, security cameras monitor many of the streets in the city.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
