The GREEN Program: Iceland - Sustainability and Renewable Energy Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained so much from this one week that it is difficult to sum up briefly. I gained a personal awareness of myself and the impact I have on the world, both from a sustainable and humanistic standpoint. I learned about renewable energy and how we can easily power our cities and towns by taking a step back from the current global status and seeing the ways in which we can utilize nature's gems - water, geothermal, solar and wind. I learned that in order to transform the world we must first transform ourselves. I stepped out of my comfort zone once I walked off that plane and I have not turned back. The friendships I made with students from across the globe help me through the challenges of life in pursuing this new direction. I am now dedicated to a life of sustainability in all aspects and since this trip, have become a global citizen. I gained a newfound responsibility from this experience - to better the lives of everyone around the world using STEM. Even if you are not in a technical field, this study abroad program will open all of your sense, make you question everything you've ever learned, and come out on the other side a new person. Trust me when I say there is no other trip I would have rather taken. I am the change I want to see in the world and I'm making it happen!
