Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The system abroad required less homework/assignments on a weekly basis, which meant more large projects/papers/tests that were worth more to your grade. I liked this system because it allowed more academic independence and i was able to learn at my own pace, but i can see how this would be difficult for many american students, it is easy to get behind.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The administrators were great, they stuck with us all through orientation and then gave us many ways of contacting them. They also had somebody in our city, who was roughly our age that was great to talk to and have around for any questions/concerns that came up throughout the semester. My expectations were met fully, whenever i had a question they answered it fully.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was great, it was only a 30 second walk into campus and the apartment building was filled with both americans, international students and kiwi's which made for a great experience. They provided everything for you and the things that were not provided i knew before hand so i could plan accordingly.

* Food:

A meal plan was provided but i chose not to pay for it and cook for myself, as did most students i knew. There were hundreds of good restaurants within walking distance as well.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

TEAN did so much for us in this category. We started with a 5 day trip to Fiji before we even reached New Zealand which was an amazing experience. After that we had our orientation in Auckland which involved being taken around the city by locals, abseiling, great food and so much more. The events TEAN planned for us were some of the best times i had throughout my time in NZ.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

New Zealand is a very safe country overall in my opinion, but whatever issues there are TEAN covered most of them. I never felt unsafe walking around late at night or anywhere i ended up.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
