Texas Tech University: Seville - TTU Center Seville

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I became more confident in my major, International business, and expanded my horizons. I hope to go back and see another city in Spain this time.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I studied directly with Tech so there was no difference really.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

for the amount of students that are there the program does a good job of being on top of things.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

I am a vegetarian and being abroad I had to be flexible with seafood and not insulting my host mom's cooking. Just being open-minded, but still keeping my ways of living.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Visiting Granada was my favorite, especially because it was with the program.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I think health and safe issues were assessed very well. I know a student got sick on a trip to Portugal and right away he was taken to the hospital and taken care of in a timely manner.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 25 to 50 euros a week.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I just had to make sure I had money when we went on trips with the program, but other than that nothing really.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Fluent
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? I took a Spanish exam giving me 16 credit hours before heading to Spain.
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

I used it with the staff there and with my host mom, mostly. Majority of the students spoke English all the time, but once they stepped outside they turned it to Spanish.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Have fun with the program, but respect the professors. The professors and Dr. Inglis do an amazing job of talking with the students and being respectful. I think all students would benefit from study abroad.
