Syracuse University: London - Syracuse University in London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I achieved my goal of studying abroad in London that I had since the 5th or 6th grade. I couldn’t even explain how much fun I had. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I hope to return to London one day.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was definitely more of a difficult academic program than the other abroad programs. That being said, I did take 5 classes in order to graduate early down the line. If you take the recommended 4, you’ll have a bit of an easier time. Even if you do take 5 classes though, you’ll be fine. I enjoyed the academic challenges. Also every class was so special, I felt lucky to experience 5!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone was nice and tried to be helpful. That being said they had some questionable methods of getting us to sign up for trips and stuff that definitely could be improved.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We ended up having some issues in our flat but none that were the fault of the program. We were located right near a tube station and across the street from Hyde Park. I would live back there in a heartbeat.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? maybe $100
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? just save a lot before hand and spend as sparingly as possible while also not forgetting to have fun! museums are all free so there’s always something to do even if you’re in a hard money week.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

* What could be improved?
  • Organization of the program
  • maybe decrease the class work load of some of the courses
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? That i should’ve tried to make friends with locals more. Maybe explore local places even more than I did (but i had a lot of schoolwork to do so it was hard).

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.

Comments: This was definitely my least favorite class. I learned a little bit but we had no outside instruction (tell me how the other TRF class got to GO TO THE BBC studios and talk with execs but the actual BBC class just sat in the classroom and took notes?) Definitely take the other TRF class if you can.

Comments: If you’re considering it, DO IT. It was by far the best class because it genuinely took us places and to shows we never would’ve known or thought about. And she did give us one West End show (that was amazing). So take this class!!!
