SUU: Psychology in Spain

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

There are a couple things I would have liked to change. 1. Montserrat, I wish we would have gotten there earlier to see me of the area. It's hard to do in 5 hours when you are eating limited on time in order to catch the train.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The living arrangements exceeded my expectations.

* Food:

Struck out a few times on where to eat, the food ended up not being very good at several places we went to. Some of the places were excellent. Three meals in a row were marginal at best. I also ended up with salmonella, so that taints my views on the food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I did not know Spanish and didn't feel I could integrate into the culture.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

not applicable

* Safety:

A couple of the students were pick-pocketed. In Barcelona there were armored vehicles and personnel at the beach. At the Malaga airport there were guards and they were searching passengers (who were headed to the US) and their belongings at the gate, a little unnerving

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I wasn't restricted to a student budget, so what I spent on souvenirs and food was over $200/week. I would think it very difficult to spend less than $200/week on food, water, snacks.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $300

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
