About

The purpose of this 6-credit undergraduate (or 3-credit graduate) SUNY New Paltz International Social Welfare course is to study the South African social welfare system and immerse themselves in the South African culture.

The program includes:

- Visits to and working alongside colleagues in human services programs and non-governmental organizations providing services to children and youth, people with disabilities, people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, organizations supporting people identifying as LGBTIQ along with other social development programs.
- Visits to sites of historical, cultural, and political interest in Cape Town and Langa (Western Cape) and in Johannesburg and Soweto (Gauteng).
- Participation in and presentation at the South African National Association for Child Care Workers bi-annual conference.
- Wilderness overnight experience with South African child and youth care workers.
