Prague to Amsterdam Past Review

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I got a chance to see a different side of life, as well as different aesthetics these Europeans valued, in fashion and in architecture, music and art. We went to a lot of museums, too many, I think, to be able to really absorb what we saw. We learned the wonders of public transportation, as well as some of its pitfalls, but it was a blessing for the most part. Europeans are much more willing to socialize with you, so we learned that it was okay to talk to strangers--some, anyway. I got more of an understanding at the biases in different countries on common history, and learned how that bias changes as the past becomes harder to remember. I learned how to rely more on myself, and how to rely on others, especially when it comes to directions. The food was great, and I've expanded my pallet substantially since I've been there. I also learned that Americans are very loud, and that we should appreciate the quiet more. Silence is nice, sometimes. I had a lot of fun, getting to know people and the places I visited, and I look forward to going back one day.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Be prepared to pay a lot more for water; they only serve it in bottles there unless you ask specifically for it from the tap, and the servings are smaller. Also, always have extra cash on you in case you have to pay a fine, and if you find a souvenir you like, be prepared to find something you might like even more. Don't regret buying something because you can't afford then something better.
