SUNY Geneseo: Traveling - Mediterranean Roots Summer Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
This trip was more than worthwhile. Every day spent abroad was an amazing experience that taught me more than just the culture or the class material. I learned a lot about myself during the 6 weeks of this trip and I am so thankful that I was able to have this experience.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Every activity we did or location we visited related to the material we were discussing in class.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

All of the hotels we stayed in were very nice and it was clear that Professor Savellos took the time to find great places for us.

* Food:

The food everywhere was amazing.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt like we all really immersed ourselves in the culture by eating the local food, touring the area and seeing the historical sites.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

On the third day of the trip 5 other students and I got sea urchins stuck in our feet. Professor Bennett and Professor Savellos were extremely helpful in getting us help and the medical attention we needed. The healthcare was easily accessible and helpful.

* Safety:

The only safety concern I had the whole trip was being pick-pocketed but I faced very few situations where pick pocketing was even a possibility.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

The program was put together so well by Professor Bennett and Professor Savellos and they were able to incorporate education into the trip while allowing us to see the countries and enjoy ourselves.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The only real expense we had was food and any personal things we wanted to buy so I thought it was easy to keep costs down.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100 give or take
