Mexico Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worthwhile. I learned that in oder to learn the culture within the time I was there it would require I completely open myself up and leave all my American ways out on the US and Immigration entrance. You gain so much from this way of looking at life in Mexico. In addition, most working class people seemed to live very happy ( and people accustom themselves to be out more. Not like America). Happiness toward life is one aspect I brought back with me.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? About $200-250. As an art major supplies were the most expensive. In addition, when i wanted to participate in cultural excursions or museum visits not included in the program that money came directly from my budget.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
