Study Abroad Programs in Argentina

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a language, confidence in myself, a ton of new family and friends, and memories that will last a lifetime

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were super easy and the teachers had super low expectations for us. All of my classes were in spanish which were really helpful but I had no option to meet students from the university because all of the international students were segregated

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Raul and Beatriz were absolutely amazing. They becahse my psuedo parents and I knew if I needed anything I could rely on them.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved my host mom she was amazing, but her cooking was really gross and often times I would still be hungry after our meals.

* Food:

The food was nasty. My host mom would not give hs enlugh food and would cook mostly variations of vegtables. There were multiple times in which I had to tell her I was allergic to garlic and then she would lie to me and tell me there was no garlic in the food, even though I could clearly smell and taste garlic in the food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The school made it almost impossible to get to know individuals from Buenos Aires. UB kept all the international students on a seperate floor and gave us no information about the activities happening at the school.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Raul and Beatriz helped me when I needed to go to the doctor they made it easy and not scary.

* Safety:

There was never a point where I felt unsafe or in danger throught my 6 months here. Everyone kept warning me about pickpockets but as long as you have basic street smarts youre fine

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

100% I absolutely loved my program, my SolMates and everything about Buenos Aires. I am trying to figure out how to move to BA in the near future

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

If you know how to budget your money and dont mind walking you can easily live on 100 dollars for 2 or 3 weeks

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 50$
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Look for por peso resturants, carry out is generally cheaper, the more you use public transportation, the cheaper it gets, if you plan on drinking, dont do it at the club

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

Raul and beatriz would only speak in spanish, my host my barely spoke english, and 4 out of 5 of my classes were in spanish

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Intermediate
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Fluent
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? 201

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
