Study Abroad Programs in Argentina

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Totally! , I think in addition to the added benefits of knowing a second language, that this experience has taught me adapt to anything. I was able to live in a place for several months, without knowing anyone, the place, or the culture and language very well. I learned how much we take for granted and how much we miss by not treating each day as something new. In the future, I’ll pay more attention to what I have and play a more active role in looking for new things to learn and do.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My host Mom was always very helpful and welcoming. It was very hard for me at first because I am a nervous person to begin with and the language barrier made things even more difficult for me. She was very patient and kind and helped to make my experience in Argentina the best ever.

* Food:

I loved everything she made!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

, I think in addition to the added benefits of knowing a second language, that this experience has taught me adapt to anything. I was able to live in a place for several months, without knowing anyone, the place, or the culture and language very well. * Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
* Was food included in your program cost? Yes
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 120

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Beginner
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Advanced
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? Contemporary Spanish (SPAN 450)
How many hours per day did you use the language?
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? You’ll get out of this experience what you want. If all you do is sit around and complain about how much you miss home, then you won’t get anything out of it. If you go with the idea that you’re going to learn all that you can and see all that you can see, you’ll learn more than you can imagine and have a life-changing experience.
