What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I was able to take courses, specific to Africa, that I would never have been able to as well as to go to school in a very cosmopolitan city with people from all over the world.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The education experience emphasizes independent learning. Students are required to be self-motivated

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I stayed in Dinwiddy House, a private accommodation solely for SOAS students. Unfortunately, my experience was very unpleasant. On several occasions residents were without hot water sometimes we were without water completely. The house also had a rodent problem, I had mice in my room which was very unnerving. Unfortunately, management took a long time to respond to our complaints. Although the accommodation is well priced, it is not worth the hassle.

* Food:

As my accommodation was self-catering, I cooked my own meals.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 35 British pounds
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Get a student oyster card to receive discounted travel if you can. Transport is very expensive in London.
