SIT Study Abroad: Reviews from Former Locations

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Absolutely! It was amazing!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload and expectations were minimal. I really enjoyed the material, though there was very little evaluation of us by the course. This was fine though, as, if you engaged with the professors, you could learn as much as you wanted to.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The people who ran the program were amazing. They are some of the best folks out there.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

India is a vegetarian wonderland!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I really enjoyed seeing all of the monasteries. Also, of course, the trip to the Taj Mahal is amazing.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you're slightly observant of your self in a space, you'll be fine.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you're not crazy wealthy, you can still get by famously in India. If you want fancy souvenirs of course, they'll cost as much as they do anywhere else. It depends on what you want.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? I had not taken the language before
