Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This means there was a perfect amount of coursework to be done but by no means too much! It was helpful and supplemented what I was doing at my internship, on excursions, and on the every day.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Dr. Ashraf is an amazing human. As well as Farah. I felt cared for, heard, and I learned so much from them. I was never left in the dust or confused. They had a plan and lots of knowledge.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I stayed with a host family and they were great! Clean, private room and bathroom, welcoming, and I feel that I got a real experience of life in Jordan thanks to this living arrangement.

* Food:

Oh my heavens the FOOD. I do not have enough words to speak to the food. Delicious in every regard.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

This is up to each student. Personally I felt very much a part of the culture while in Jordan. I joined worship services and local celebrations. I joined a running club and played pickleball with a regular group. Great people.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Fortunately I did not have health problems, but my classmates who did were able to get the care they needed. The SIT staff help with this.

* Safety:

I honestly felt safe the whole time. As a woman in the middle east, of course I had to be careful but I was smart and brave and had no problems.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I honestly met amazing people and learned so much about history, culture, the world, religion, human services, language etc. I love the landscape, the language, the people. Everything.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

My host family prepared meals and I was able to eat so many kind of foods. I didn't buy so many souvenirs, which is up to the individual. I was also given a stipend for transportation and some food, so I did not have a problem with finances on a student budget.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Maybe $50 mostly for transportation (ubers to and from work and school), but that was covered by the stipend given through the program fees we paid.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? It is not cheap. But once there, I really did not spend much more of my own funds, and everything was planned and prepared like sleeping and food and it is bougie arrangements so totally worth it. A great way to travel. I am glad I had so much time there. I would not pay a lot for a shorter trip.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
