Sea Education Association: Programs at Sea - Summer Session

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Spending a semester with S.E.A was the grandest adventure I have ever had. I was pushed academically in a way that I had never experienced before and may never experience again. The professors and crew were the most understanding and helpful people that I have ever had a chance to be in class with. I learned more from them in a short period of time than I could ever possibly fathom. Sailing across the Pacific Ocean changed me in a way that I can not properly express. It was the happiest I had ever been in my 26 years.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was the hardest I have ever been pushed academically. It was also the most feedback and support I have been given

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Fantastic folks working in the S.E.A. office.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

We were provided with a gift card to purchase food for the house you lived in during the onshore component. Cooking with your housemates was a great community building activity and prepared us to live on a ship together.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Our safety and health was the first concern for all the crew on board the ship as well as the staff while on shore.

* Safety:

Nothing was stressed as much as safety. Safety was first when doing anything on board the ship. There was not a single moment where I felt like I was in danger and that there wasn't a trained crew looking out for me and my fellow classmates.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

We were given more than enough money to feed everyone in the house. Everything else was included in the tuition.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 15

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
