Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Overall I think that the assignments on this trip (as it pertains to both International Social Work and Independent Research) was too much. When asking students to complete an interview with a professor, be considerate that it is the summer time and many professors are on vacation. Writing a 15 page paper is a little too much. It's hard to have a good time in another country when you spend most of your free time completing homework assignments, doing research the last week (because the library passes were only a week long),and trying to find people to interview. Writing a paper on cultural experiences and journals of daily activies would be a more resonable assignment.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Although we did not see the people from UWI's International Office a lot,I think they did a decent job at providing us with what we needed. They sent student interns on excusions with us and checked in on us occasionally.They could do a better job at getting things done before we get there like the computer services and library passes.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The staff at the dorms did a great job at keeping the place clean, changing our covers, giving us clean towels, and replacing items like light bulbs, soap and things to that nature. On the packing list it said that we needed to bring shees but we didn't and it took up alot of space in my suitcase. Also bring shower shoes. There is a computer lab open 24 hours. Bring clothes that you might want to go out in during the night.

* Food:

The foo is spicy in Trinidad in case many do not know. On campus there are not many places you can eat. Iwould suggest going grocery shopping becasue eating out every day is costly. Also their portion sizes compared to Americans are alot smaller and you actually pay alot. KFC is very popular and the cheapest. Everyone should try Bake and Shark. There is no such thing as breakfast foods only if you cook it, bagels and pastries are the closest things to breakfast.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Overall, Trinidad and Tobago is a must see country. I would highly recommend study abroad students to go to Gasparee Cave, Pitch Lake (the 8th wonder of the world), Emancipation Day (although the walk is over 3hours long), a steel band concert, The Shade (a club in Tobago on Saturday), the Glass botto boats, Nylon pool, snorking, San Fernando, Port-of-Spain, and most importand the beach (Maracus Bay and Las Cuavas).

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Trinidad has a high crime rate so being careful and following the guidelines as it pertains to sticking together is important. I did not experience any health issues while abroad.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
