SAI Study Abroad: Sorrento - Sant'Anna Institute (SA)

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
An understanding of another culture, and an appreciation for the overall Sorrento city

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I don't think this class was intensive or anything that took a lot of time, which I enjoyed because that meant we got to focus more on our excursions

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone was very accommodating and helpful when we had issues with our apartments

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

At first we got put into a two bedroom place with two beds for four people. We then had to move to a bigger apartment which had very little wi-fi for four people to do schoolwork.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I liked how free we were to do our own things

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I definitely think it was much safer when I got here than I was told beforehand. I didn't think I needed to watch over my bag the whole time I was in Sorrento. The surrounding areas like downtown Naples I did feel a little unsafe, especially with all of the guards.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would choose this one because of the freedom we were given to make the most out of Sorrento ourselves. I felt like I was exploring what I wanted, and meeting the people and really getting to know them.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not very easily! I spent a lot more money on food here than I thought I would.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $250
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Not eating out every single night, only go to the bars and clubs a few times throughout the trip

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
