About

SSO volunteers experience the REAL Morocco while helping a community in need.  SSO is a true grassroots organization dedicated to serving the poorest, least-developed region of Morocco while facilitating cultural exchange between volunteers and Moroccans.  Volunteers are immersed in the local culture through living with carefully-selected host families, crash course language and culture lessons, and various cultural activities including Moroccan cooking lessons, nomad picnics, henna parties, and a trip to the hammam.

Volunteers will participate in community development projects such as planting trees, painting murals, and planning and implementing day camps for local children.  Volunteers are active leaders in organizing and executing volunteer projects, equipping them with valuable, marketable skills for use in future work and in their home communities.  The SSO program is a great taste of Peace Corps life.

As part of the SSO program, volunteers also have the opportunity to explore the markets of Marrakech, ride camels through sand dunes and sleep under the stars in nearby Merzouga, and to explore the oases, rock formations, and many other natural wonders surrounding Boudnib.
