Queen Mary University of London Study Abroad programme

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I grew up, honestly, I learned to become myself without the stress and meeting expectations from my family and friends from home, I was able to be my true self.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

QMUL was a life-changing experience that I wish I never had to leave. So much that I considered transferring. The overall community of Queen Mary was so welcoming; it was an honor to have friends from all over the world, from New Zealand to Germany to the Netherlands, you name it. It was an unforgettable experience. The module selections were so diverse and catered to all interests; the hands-on learning is taken to a new level as your classroom travels all around London. had I have the opportunity to return, I would in a heartbeat.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Queen Mary has the best structured administration I've ever seen!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved my assigned flatmates; I enjoyed that they were all full-time students instead of housed with another study abroad student because my goal wasn't to stick with Americans but to meet new people from new places while embracing different cultural ways of life.

* Food:

get yourself some cheeky nandos!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt right at home.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Covid was around before we knew it existed, so I had a cough for months that wasn't catered too and then I got chest X-rays and never heard back.

* Safety:

I could take the tube at night and not feel uncomfortable. it was a nice change.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I have no regrets about the modules I've taken and the people I met in my programs.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I definitely needed to budget, but the nightlife of queen mary students was definitely hard to keep up with.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 100-150 if I went out/traveled 75-100 if I cooked
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Definitely create a budget before you go! I made a spreadsheet which helped a lot with figuring out where I needed to be mindful of spending. and learn to travel on a budget (which was the best way to travel)
