The best study abroad experience May 12, 2021
By Emily B (Bachelor of laws, Deakin University) - abroad from 06/22/2014 to 07/13/2014 with
Masaryk University: Brno - Summer Schools
I learned a perspective on history that we never get to see in Australia. I also gained life experiences that I would never get without this trip
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I loved everything about this course. The people leading the units we're passionate about their areas of interest and while they all bought different methods and skills it was a great environment. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
All the support staff were super helpful. Some even going to the trouble of helping me translate my food allergies onto advisory cards for restaurants. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The housing was super convenient to town and included in the price of the program which was great. Just not exactly 5 star |
* Food: |
The people hosting us were great with food recommendations and taking us new and exciting places for lunch |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The staff and student hosts were amazing at taking us to all kinds of local cultural locations and involving us in the goings on of the city. The historical perspectives added by people who lived there during the fall of communism were the highlight of my stay |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
We were all told to have hepatitis vaccinations before leaving Australia. A friend of mine injured her ankle during the program and the staff were super helpful in getting us to the hospital and helping translate. They also helped accommodate her injury within the program |
* Safety: |
I felt incredibly safe in Brno at all times |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
Content was engaging and interesting. Trips to other cities were built into the trip really well! They were also willing to alter the schedule if there were things that you wanted to see outside of the normal structure |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The accommodation had options for if money was tight. The program itself was cheaper than others available saving lots of budget for eating out and buying trinkets |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 70 AUD |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Eat at the accommodation, buy snacks at a supermarket rather than buying them at a tourist attraction |
