Masaryk University: Brno - Summer Schools

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I made friends on this trip that I will have for life. We had the best fun in Brno and on weekends away to neighbouring countries, seeing many famous places. The people running the program were lovely and happy to show us around and help any time, day or night, when needed. I didnt want to go home.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Lots of content to cover but completely managable and support from the professors is available whenever needed

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Minimal adminstration and simple and easy at the times its required

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Spacious dorm rooms which were safe and secure, and also included a small kitchen. There was also common areas to hang out as a group.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Brno is an area not flooded with tourists so it was easy to get a feel of how the locals lived. There are beautiful old buildings on every cornerand our mentors took us to some local restaurants and bars and sights. It felt completely safe.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

No direct experience with the healthcare system but I know our mentors would have assisted with the whole process if need be.

* Safety:

Felt incredibly safe catching a taxi, where the driver spoke little English and walking home at night in a group after being to bars.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

This trip is where I made some of the best memories of my life

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

This was an incredibly reasonably priced trip for someone travelling from Australia. It is also possible to get a sum contributed towards the trip and have this applied to your HELP debt. Most people didnt need to spend the whole amount contributed to the trip.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? There’s a supermarket just down the road from campus where you can buy food so that you’re not eating out every meal, but theres also a brewery right down the road that we went to most nights
