Best memories for my student life! Past Review

By (University of london) - abroad from 06/24/2018 to 08/03/2018 with

Korea University: Seoul - International Summer Campus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely a worthwhile experience. I learned how to deal with things independently. I made a lot of friends from different background and see different perspectives. And most of all, I had the best professors!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The courses are very intense if you are taking three courses in a row, from Monday to Thursday. The professors I had were great. They are passionate about their classes and students. I was aiming at the scholarship so it could get really intense trying to only lose less than 5 points from each course. Like my professor says, if you aim high, you can get at least second high. If you aim second high, you can get at best second high. And my professors provided the supports I needed to abtain my goal.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Students support was great. People there always try their best to help. If you have a question or concerns, just go to them.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The rooms are nice and clean. Beddings are provided and there is plenty of space to put your stuff. The floor in the shower room was a little slippery but they fixed it very quickly by provided a mat.

* Food:

Bibimbap is my favourite! The campus has several restaurants that provide tasty food with decent prices. If you want to try something else, the street next to the campus provide a WIDE range of food and reasonable prices. There are a lot of coffee shops around campus you can order a delicious iced coffee and study there a whole day (although sometimes it can get very noisy in some of them).

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I don't speak or read any Korean language but I love Korean food. I always walked into a restaurant with only Korean manu and people there were always so kind and helpful. I love the smile on their faces when we somehow understood each other by gesturing and guessing.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I didn't have any experience with the health care there. But the program provided clear instructions on what we can do if we need it from day one.

* Safety:

Overall, I felt safe when I was there. I didn't go to clubs but I would suggest if you go, don't take any drinks from a stranger.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I would say that $100/week is adequate to live a very good life there with a cup of coffee every morning. If you want to save money, there are restaurants nearby where you can bring down the cost to 3 dollars a meal.

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Direct Enrollment

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
