KIIS: Bregenz - Experience Bregenz (Summer)

It was the first time that I had ever been out of the country and it was nice to experience another culture and see the the similarities and differences.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The host University was run by American professors so it was not much different than any other class I have taken. However, it focused much more on international studies.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program size was roughly 40 kids. It was a good amount of people.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

The Doner Kabob man was the best food I have ever had. If you go to Bregenz, Austria and don't eat one you didn't experience Bregenz.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The lake in Bregenz was a nice place to hang out after class and do homework.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The city was very safe. I never felt unsafe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The teachers
  • Food opportunistic
  • Location
* What could be improved?
  • More interactions with other students besides class
  • Dorms instead of host families
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? It is a once in a lifetime importunity. I do not regret it at all. I will never forget the experience I had abroad. Living with a host family was okay but I think living in dorms with other students would have built more relationships with the other students.
