Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

at first the workload was too much. I felt I spent me entire week doing school work rather than exploring the cities but we talked to the teachers and they lessened the workload to accomodate to the experience.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The study abroad advisor Ania was amazing she was extremely supportive and helpful. When i had dificulties with my host family she made sure I was ok and most of all happy. She knew a lot about the city and fun stuff to do and where to travel as well as safety.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location of my host family was great we were close to other study abroad students and the university. i felt safe in the neighborhood. it was a short cab ride to any bars or stores (less than 4 dollars). My host family was the worst part of my experience. Both of my host parents worked full time and I feel they didnt have time to show me around or help me with my spanish. my host brother was really fun and cute I would help him with his english. my host sister I NEVER talked to. but it was fun that my host moms parents hosted two study abroad students as well.

* Food:

breakfasts were always large with a ton of fruit and either eggs or pancakes or toast. lunches were mostly on my own at the university. I dont like beans of any sort and my host family accomodated to that. the campus had a great and cheap cafeteria otherwise there are some expensive restaurants in the mall.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My study abroad group was like my family. Everyone in the group got along so well and my roommate was the best i could ask for. all the excursions were life changing and it was a great way to get to know everyone in the group as well as the san jose group.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

heredia felt like a very safe city as long as you were careful and aware. I got sick after a weekend in Puerto Viejo. I was sick for about 2 weeks but my advisor sent me to the clinic right away to get medication and to make sure i felt better and even called my host family to make sure they took care of me. medication was a lot cheaper there too which was helpful.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I mostly practiced spanish in my spanish class and when we would travel on weekends in places like stores or restaurants. everyday interaction spanish was used but my host family was never home and it really effected my spanish learning capacity.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
