What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned about what it is like to be in a culture that has many differences to the one I am used to. I gained many friends and a different way of looking at things. It was worthwhile.

I don't feel like I was completely integrated in the local culture. However, this is because of my lack of knowledge of the Japanese language prior to going abroad and not the fault of the program itself.

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? about $130
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you want to travel, buses are cheaper than the shinkansen though the ride is longer. You can also look for package deals for the shinkansen tickets if you prepare in advance. Sometimes these deals will include hotels.

Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Talk to the KUIS students in Japanese. They are friendly, but will talk to you in English if you let them.
