IES Abroad: Milan - Study Abroad With IES Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I really appreciate other cultures now. After studying abroad I would love to experience more European culture and perhaps even live abroad for a few years.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

IES was the perfect program. My expectations were exceeded.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Money goes fast so it's important to always be conscious of how much you're spending. I spent more money than I thought I would on groceries, and dining out. I would recommend making a budget for every week just so you don't overspend.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

I could practice Italian with peers, teachers and my community assistant. It was necessary to attempt to use the language in everyday interactions because many people did not speak English very well. It was extremely helpful that IES had an intensive language program for the first month everyday in order to help us learn the language.
