By (Middlebury College) - abroad from 09/08/2014 to 12/19/2014 with

ICCS / Centro: Rome - The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a greater depth of knowledge of Roman history and the Classical world in addition to an appreciation of modern Italian culture. This program provided me the opportunity to visit sites I never would have been able to otherwise.

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

Ancient City

Course Department: Classics
Instructor: Beth Severy-Hoven, Marilyn Evans, Cat Baker, Daniel Picus
Instruction Language:
Comments: Survey course in Roman history. Because of its breadth, the course was very challenging. Class was taught on site, which was both helpful and challenging. I did not participate very often in class because of its large size. Assessments included three short (2 page) site reports, an oral site presentation, a midterm, a final, and a final research paper.

Comments: Our professor was Italian, so she was very knowledgeable about the language. I participated very often in class because of its small size. Class was challenging but also fun.

Comments: Not quite as challenging as my previous Greek classes at my home institution but overall an engaging and enjoyable class. Our professor was knowledgeable and well-prepared. I probably participated less often in class than I would have at my school. Assessments included weekly quizzes, a midterm, a recitation, a final, and a short paper.
