Opportunity Filled Past Review

By (Hendrix College) - abroad from 01/26/2018 to 05/23/2018 with

University of Nicosia - Global Semesters: Nicosia - Summer in Cyprus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was worthwhile because the flexibility of classes allowed me to travel every weekend.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes offered surprised me in that they were not academically challenging compared to my home institution.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Administration was present but relatively nonchalant.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing arrangements were not the same, which was unfair to those in lesser quality apartments. Would have preferred if everyone lives in the same building.

* Food:

Did not ever eat on campus.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It was difficult to feel integrated when most locals were not freindly or were dismissive of the program itself.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Healthcare was easy to find and use, and extremely cheap.

* Safety:

Very safe. Never worried.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I would have preferred to studied on mainland Europe because the cities are more active and entertaining compared to Cyprus. I would have come here for a weekend trip.

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Very easy if you make a budget.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 60
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Travel sporadically.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
