SRH IS DUMB, STILL HAD FUN! Past Review

By (The College of New Jersey) - abroad from 08/25/2016 to 12/17/2016 with

European Study Center: Heidelberg - Study Abroad in the EU

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned an outside perspective. Especially from TCNJ I get a very one sided view, but now I see it from an international perspective

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

ESC did an excellent job. I never had a more unpleasant experience at the SRH. Very unhappy my school forced me to take that program.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone was very nice and helpful. Best academic team I ever met. Except for SRH

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Good housing. Rooms decent.

* Food:

What food?

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Host facility did a very good job integrating me, but the language barrier was difficult at times.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I am a healthy man, but I heard horror stories from fellow students.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Loved the country and the people. I just wish SRH never happened.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Not a lot, but I also went hungry a lot
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Work your tail off before you come
