My Spanish improved, I had a lot of fun and met a lot of Spanish people. I made a lot of friends.

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This program was great. It was a small city but I found that I was discovering new things even up until the end of my trip. I had a lot of fun, made a lot of friends, got to practice my Spanish and felt safe / comfortable.

My host family was so welcoming. They made me a part of the family while I was there.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

At times I felt like I stuck out a bit because I look nothing like a Spaniard but I was always teated well and the locals were friendly.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

You have insurance and the hospitals take care of you extremely fast. The faculty member that accompanies the students will take you to the doctor if you are not feeling well.

* Safety:

The police academy is located in Ávila so its an extremely safe city.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The host families and teachers only speak to students in Spanish but you can talk to the other students in your program in English if you need to.

  • We did three excursions but I would have liked a fourth.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? They don't have dryers in Spain so bring a pair of jeans that will fit you nicely even if they don't go in the dryer.
