DIS Summer in Scandinavia

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned that I can go to a place in a different country alone without doing any preliminary research and succeed while having an incredible time.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Copenhagen is pretty expensive but it's also easy to buy and cook your own meals. Just difficult to not give in to the temptation to eat and explore all the time.

* What could be improved?
  • DIS shouldn't promote PicCell
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Don't fall for PicCell. It's a cell phone service that is kind of a scam. Paid for a sim card with the understanding that I wouldn't be charged if I returned it at the end of the program, sent the sim card back when I got to America and they claimed they never received it and charged me anyways.

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

Nordic Art in the Studio

Course Department: ART 320K
Instructor: Ricardo Gomes
Instruction Language: English
Comments: It was a great way to visit museums and experience the Danish culture. We went on an amazing field trip to Arhaus to see the teacher's work at a museum. I participated the same amount as I would have at my home institution. The assignments were really cool, interactive and applicable art projects.
Credit Transfer Issues: Counted towards my Visual Art and Performing Arts Credit

Children in a Multicultural Context

Course Department:
Instructor: Maja Sbahi Biehl
Instruction Language: English
Comments: This was the most fantastic class I have ever taken. It was so interesting to learn about child development in such an amazing way. We learned about different cultures and how their education systems and ways differed. We had papers that we were required to write about the schools we visited but they were very interesting to do. There was also a 5 day study tour to Istanbul, Turkey which was by far the highlight of my entire abroad experience.
