DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned how to be independent. I also gained an appreciation for other cultures and a city I know and love.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in Nimbus and it made my experience. I would not have been as happy if I had lived anywhere else.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I only felt this way because I got to live with Danish people in a kollegium and experience their life.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I got sick on my long study tour and one of my professors took me to the pharmacy and paid for all my medication. If you have any medical or prescription costs because you get sick over the program, DIS will reimburse you.

* Safety:

I have never felt this safe in a city in my life, they even have people out on the weekends who are employed by the city watching out for drunk or sick people to give them bags, kleenex, and wipes.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Food prices are similar to those in the US, plus you get a food stipend of $600. It doesn't last the whole time, but it will take you pretty far.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

I enjoyed learning the language, but it is not necessary. Almost every Danish person I told that I was learning Danish, including certain professors, asked my why I was doing that, because it was just not necessary and almost pointless.

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? In Danish, none
How many hours per day did you use the language? 0
