Amazing Program and Wonderful City Past Review

By (Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/13/2018 to 05/12/2018 with

DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned independence, and proved to myself that I could live in a foreign country by myself. I made some great friends from DIS. I was also able to travel throughout Europe, which was great. And I also learned a lot from my classes. It was definitely a worthwhile program.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thought m classes were extremely interesting but not too difficult, especially compared to my home university. I learned so much.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

There were so many resources, and everything was so well-prepared for us.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a Kollegium and loved it.

* Food:

Not a big fan of Danish food, but I cooked for myself and was fine.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My Kollegium was pretty isolated so I didn't interact much with Danes in my building (however, I remember clearly applying for a more introverted home setting, so this isn't a complaint). I really suggest applying for a Visiting Host Family to integrate into the culture. I feel that there were a lot of ways to integrate, and I didn't necessarily take advantage of all of the resources.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

My home university provided us an extra insurance on top of the one DIS provides. The insurance was difficult to navigate, but I got the mental health care I needed and it was very helpful (and covered by insurance)!

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I really think DIS was a great program that treated students well; we borrowed textbooks for free, they gave us access to a great cheap phone plan, they paid for all important apartment furniture and cleaning supplies, and classes (and class trips) were amazing. Copenhagen is an amazing city to live in. I really loved this experience.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? No Danish classes
How many hours per day did you use the language?

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

European Clinical Psychology

Course Department: Psychology
Instructor: Veronika Leonova
Instruction Language: English
Comments: It was honestly the most incredible course, and I learned so much that I will apply to my future as a therapist/psychologist. It offered many different viewpoints on key issues in psychology that aren't spoken about enough at my home university. If you want to go into the field of clinical psychology in any way, I would suggest this course.
