DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I was terrified to study abroad, as I had never done anything like nor had I ever been away from my family for such an extended period of time. All of my fears were eased as early as the first week, when I met some truly incredible students both on my program and in my residence building. The culture is simply amazing- minimalist and easy-going.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Great course options, field studies were an integral part of learning, and ideal size classes. However, some professors that I had felt less available.

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I had the BEST housing assigned to me.The location was impeccable. My roommates and I were matched perfectly.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Integration was made very easy through living in a Kollegium (with American and Danish students), weekly field studies to complement our classes, and through convenient various discounts offered at local cafes for DIS students.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I always felt very safe, even late at night walking from the city center to my Kollegium (approximately 15 minute walk).

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I truly had the best experience(s) of my life while studying in Copenhagen. I wouldn't have changed anything that I did and experienced. My two roommates are now two of my best friends and I look forward to our relationships blossoming even more.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Copenhagen is a very expensive city, as expected. Although our food stipend card was useful to a certain extent, it was not enough to last through the end of the semester and was only accepted by certain supermarkets.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $300

How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language
