DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My study abroad experience was worthwhile. I learned how to live independently, how to live in a foreign city, how to travel in cities and use public transportation. I absolutely feel more culturally aware and more sensitive towards people everywhere.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was manageable, the grading system fair, teaching methods effective, and relatively few differences from my home university.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The administration were very kind and happy people who hosted the school trips and taught classes. Also, the people who worked at the school were very supportive and available.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The neighborhood was pretty safe, had a park near-by, school was a bus ride away, night life was active in the area. I did not need to buy anything to settle in. I was treated well by my roommate, like a guest.

* Food:

I easily found food in grocery stores throughout the city and at cafes, etc.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt very isolated, and I wish I had taken the time to take an after school program, which the school did offer. The program arranged a week long study tour to France, which was great. Adventure Trips were available, but I missed them.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The health care system was effective. I received a health insurance card, which I presented to the hospital.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I could practice the language in class with peers, outside of class ordering food. I chose to use their language. Around the apartment we spoke English.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
