DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Absolutely. I learned another language and completely immersed myself in a new country.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Denmark has FAR more group projects, which is an adjustment.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The accessibility and support were fantastic

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I love my host family but they didn't speak a ton of english which forced me to learn a lot of Danish, which was cool. I miss them and still write them often.

* Food:

WOW Danes love pork and potatoes. It was great to eat traditional danish food but I did miss variety, but really I'm not a picky eater, I don't care.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved playing for a danish basketball team and bartending. It was a great way to meet people.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

A very safe country if you didn't act like an idiot. I was grateful that they gave us access to health care, which I needed.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I spent no more than $20/week on expenses. I was incredibly stingy so and I was way lower than most other people. I only traveled one weekend not designated as a leave the country time.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Flights are not cheap out of Copenhagen!!! Be prepared for that.
